Who are we?

Quad HAND (House and Neighborhood Development) is a public service group that volunteers with Cambridge School Volunteers and Linnaean Community Schools. Our volunteers are students from Cabot, Currier, and Pforzheimer, so HAND is a great way to meet fellow Quadlings

What do we do? Where and When?

We run numerous 'courses' through the Linnaean Neighborhood Community School Enrichment program, located at the Graham and Parks School (behind Pfoho on Linnaean St.). These activities range from playing sports to drama club, study hall to music lessons. Simply put, if you think it would be a good after-school activity for middle schoolers, we do it, and if not, you can try and start your own! The courses are generally one to two hours, once or twice per week, so HAND is a great way to volunteer without clogging your schedule.

Additionally, we run two different tutoring programs. The Homework Center is located at Graham and Parks School. We tutor 3rd through 6th graders. The Homework Center is on Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday afternoons from 2:30-4pm. For more information, please contact Jessica Harmon at jharmon@fas.

Our second tutoring program, known as Study Hall, is located in the Pfoho dining hall. We tutor Monday through Thursday afternoons from 3-4:15pm. For more information please contact Matt Lynch at mrlynch@fas.

In addition to the courses, we also participate in 'one-shots,' which are fun, one time events, such as hosting a holiday party, volunteering at a homeless shelter, volunteering at food banks, and occasional one-on-one tutoring. For more information please contact Lindsay Burton at burton@fas.

Because there are HAND programs in nearly every undergraduate House, including Dudley House, we tutor almost every afternoon all afternoon. So, if these times don't work for you, please don't hesitate to e-mail Lindsay Burton at burton@fas and we will find you a spot somewhere! There is even the option of volunteering in the mornings if that works best for you. Just let us know and we'll work it out!
