RESIDENT DEAN

The equivalent of the dean of the house, the Allston Burr Resident Dean is also the advocate for its students as Currier's representative on the Administrative Board. The best thing about resident deans is that they never say "I don't know..." when you ask them a question about Harvard. (They say "I'll find out...")

Our resident dean is Kate Stanton (617-495-8101, cu-abrd@fas), who lives on the lower mezzanine level in Daniels. Stop by her office (located above the Fishbowl) with any type of concern, whether academic or personal, or simply to chat. To find out more information about Kate, see her bio below.

About Kate:

As Currier’s Allston Burr Resident Dean, I serve as your academic dean and your representative to the Administrative Board of Harvard College. I hope you will view me as an advisor and guide, committed to helping you make informed decisions about academic, social, and personal matters. In fact, I view learning and living in residence as interconnected: what you learn in the classroom may be tested and refined by your experience in the House, and your experience in the house may be clarified by what you learn in the classroom.

My academic background is in the Humanities. In addition to my advising and administrative work in the house, I am a lecturer on Studies in Women, Gender, and Sexuality. I earned my B.A. in English and History from Swarthmore College and my Ph.D. in Literatures in English at Rutgers University. My academic research focuses on the literary response to contemporary global experience. Before coming to Harvard, I served as the assistant director of the Center for Teaching and Learning at Princeton University, where I was also an academic adviser and fellow at one of its residential colleges. I have taught extensively at Rutgers and Princeton in the fields of English, American Studies, and Women’s and Gender Studies. Last year, I was awarded the Harvard University Certificate of Distinction in Teaching.
John and I met and married in graduate school. He completed his B.A. in English Literature at McGill University and earned his M.A. in Literatures in English from Rutgers University, where he studied and taught American literature. In his current professional life, he works as a reporting consultant at MIT Data and Reporting Services.

John is a great cook, and we enjoy eating in and out. We also enjoy spending time on Lake Nipissing and Damariscotta Lake in the summer, swimming and canoeing. We love being involved in College and House life--eating meals with you, attending House events, and getting to know you. We're thrilled to be part of Currier.
