Community Standards

Dear Members of the Currier House Community, 

We rely on everyone living in the House to be respectful of one another, to uphold community standards, to be aware of residential policies, and to understand the consequences of violating these standards and policies. In Currier, we believe in open communication, and the goal of this document is to provide transparency about House policies. Please confirm that you have reviewed this document by signing in the space provided below, and talk to your floor Tutor if you have any questions. 

HOUSE SECURITY 
• Keep Your Room/suite door closed and locked when you are not present.
Don't Tape over locks.
You are permitted to prop your door open only when you are in your room/suite.
• PIGGYBACKING: Don't Let people into Currier House if you aren’t certain they are members of the community. 

RECOMMENDATIONS FOR PERSONAL SAFETY 
• Register with “Message Me” to get important campus safety messages:

• Don’t wear headphones when walking outside 
• Don't walk through Cambridge Common alone at night. Use the Shuttle,Transport Van & Campus Escort Program – currently, there are two on demand evening service vans from 4:00PM to  12:15AM. Download the App: https://www.transportation.harvard.edu/shuttle-van-services/demand-van-s...
• Please wear masks and abide by current safety guidelines on campus and in all common areas of the House.  Currier is a multigenerational community – please keep each other safe 

FIRE SAFETY 
• No smoking inside the building or within 25 feet of entrances 
• Fire Alarms: Every person should exit the building immediately.There is no such thing as a false alarm. (Testing of the system happens during the summer and will be posted.) We will have  a fire drill sometime this fall, and the Cambridge Fire Dept. will time how long it takes us to get out of the building and check to make sure rooms have been cleared. Do not use the elevator. Go Across the driveway to Pfoho gate 
• For safety: Do not block fire doors.Don't overload your outlets with equipment. Do Not use candles in your rooms. 
• Please use suite stoves and microwaves with caution. Small heating/cooking appliances are  not allowed on campus.  
• Remember to turn of curling irons and clothing irons after use. 

SMOKING/VAPING 
• No smoking or vaping inside the building or within 25 feet of the entrances

DRUGS 
• The College will not tolerate drug dealing or distribution. You should not buy or sell drugs, Report strange or suspicious behavior. All suspected drug use will be addressed by Tutors 
• Ordinarily, students can expect the following response to incidents involving drugs: First indication of drug use: The Tutor will confront the student and report the incident to the Currier House Dean. If you don't open your door when a Tutor knocks, we will call HUPD. Expect to meet with the Dean. 
Second Indication of drug use:Meet With the House Dean, House Warning will be issued, reported to the Administrative Board, and recorded in your file. 
Third indication of drug use: Response may include further Administrative Board or Housing Office action. At any stage, the Administrative Board and HUPD may be involved as the seriousness of the incident warrants. May also result in room reassignment or removal from College housing at any stage. 

ALCOHOL 
• Students are expected to act responsibly and follow state law 
o No alcohol consumption in common areas  
o Parties and large gatherings are currently not allowed on campus 
o SAFETY: Binge drinking is dangerous. Please do not play drinking games. Be attentive to the health of your peers 
o Amnesty Policy: You may bring an intoxicated or drug impaired friend to UHS or a hospital or seek staff assistance and neither you nor the friend will face disciplinary  action from the college for having used or provided alcohol or drugs 

YOUR SUITE/BATHROOM 
During your time of residence, you are entrusted with the care of the building.  En suite bathrooms should be cleaned by suite/room residents (cleaning supplies provided). Please do not use tape (or  similar adhesives), nails, tacks, picture hooks, or other objects that create holes in walls, doors, moldings,  ceilings, or floors. Room furniture may NOT be removed from your room/suite for any reason. You will be  held responsible for any damage that occurs while in residence. After moving in, please check your suite for damage. In the unlikely event you find damage, report it to Building Manager Manny Casillas via e-mail  at mcasill@fas.harvard.edu. Please be as specific as possible in describing the damage and copy suitemates to sign the letter. Suite damage notifications must be submitted by September 3 before  4:00pm. 

COMMUNITY 
Know your bathroom mates and suitemates – introduce yourselves to one another ▪ Enjoy your common spaces, and treat them with respect, especially the House courtyards ▪ Treat the dining hall and custodial staff with dignity and respect. Pick up after yourselves in bathrooms and public spaces. Food waste should be disposed of in trash rooms as soon as possible. Try to learn the names of staff members you see in the House. It may be difficult with  masks, but these are people you’ll see regularly 
▪ Quiet Hours begin at 11PM on weeknights and2 AM on the weekends and extend until 8 AM. If someone is making a lot of noise, first ask them to be quiet. Then ask the Tutor-on-Call to
intervene 
▪ Get involved! Join Ho Co, share any ideas or concerns with your Resident Tutor, the Faculty Deans, House Staff, or your House Dean 

LOCK OUTS 
• M-F, 8am-4pm, visit Manny Casillas, Building Manager for a key. 
• M-F, 4pm-8am, visit the Security Guard at Bells Desk 
• Sat-Sun, 8am-4pm, call the tutor on call 617-413-8043 (store this number in your phone now). • Sat-Sun, 4pm-8am, visit the Security Guard at Bells Desk
